Water scarcity, extreme heat, power shortages and rising fuel costs make sustainability a practical business issue in Iraq and across the region, not just a global slogan. This self-study course explains what sustainable development means and shows how organisations and their employees can act on it.
Across six lessons you will follow a realistic case study: a dairy and juice factory facing an environmental warning, high diesel costs, water restrictions and customer pressure. Its new sustainability coordinator cuts water use per litre by 31%, diesel use by a third and waste to landfill by 60%, saving about 610 million dinars a year while supporting local farmers and the community. You will learn the definition and three pillars of sustainable development, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the business case, environmental aspects and impacts, wastewater control, the waste hierarchy and waste audits, biodiversity and ecosystem services, energy audits and efficiency, solar power and payback, water metering and reduction, decoupling and the circular economy, life-cycle thinking, responsible purchasing and consumption, social responsibility and shared value, inclusive local development, decent work, sustainable cities, sustainable innovation, materiality, targets, honest reporting, avoiding greenwashing and engaging employees. Each lesson includes charts and diagrams, worked examples and short questions that check your understanding, and the course ends with a 20-question final exam.
